The Sunny Shores of Ibiza

The Sunny Shores of Ibiza

Known as the sandy playground of the rich and famous, Ibiza is an nestled within the Mediterranean Sea and located approximately 150 kilometres east of the Spanish city of Valencia. Ibiza is quite large and to put this in perspective, it is roughly ten times the size of Manhattan island.  It also enjoys temperate weather throughout the majority of the year.  Due to many luxury hotels and villas here, Ibiza is a massive destination for the rich and famous during the spring and summer months.  A bustling nightlife, culinary delights and a captivating culture round out the benefits that this paradise has to offer.

Flights and Airlines

Although other airports such as Prat de Llobregat in Barcelona will sometimes serve those who are choosing package holidays or last-minute flights to Ibiza, it is the most common for visitors to utilise Ibiza Airport (IBZ).  As it is found a mere 7 kilometres from the centre of Ibiza Town (the most populous city), arriving to and from this hub is quite easy.  There are also year-round domestic services for those who might be looking to visit other parts of Spain.  A handful of common carriers include:

  • British Airways
  • easyJet
  • Ryanair
  • Iberia
  • TAP Portugal
  • Thomas Cook Airlines
  • Thomson Airways

Prices will natural be more expensive during the summer months.  Bargains can often be found when booking in advance or for those who choose package holidays which also include the cost of local accommodation.

Hotels on Ibiza

As mentioned previously, there are some truly luxurious hotels and properties to choose from.  Some of the most popular (and expensive) are Grand Palladium Palace Ibiza Resort & Spa, Aguas de Ibiza, Hard Rock Hotel Ibiza and Sol Beach House Ibiza.  The majority of these and other properties will be found quite close (if not directly on) nearby beaches.  We should also note that the Spanish tend to base their prices upon occupancy as opposed to flat seasonal rates.  Thus, finding a bargain will often entail choosing to visit during the relative downtime between October and late April.

Ibiza Attractions

The beaches of Casa Salada, Playa d'en Bossa and Las Salinas are certainly worth a closer look although it is always a good idea to walk a bit further to find more secluded locations.

In terms of nature, Ibiza does not disappoint.  Internal preserves such as Es Vedra and Sa Talaiassa are amazing for those who are looking to enjoy a break from the crowd.  However, the nightlife has to be seen and experienced to be believed.  Privilege, Ca Na Negreta and the aptly named Amnesia Ibiza are generally open until the wee hours of the morning.  These are ideal for dancing, drinking and occasionally rubbing shoulders with celebrities.

On a final note, bargains and last-minute flights are much more likely to be encountered during the autumn and winter.  This can be a great way to save a bit of money while still enjoying a tropical paradise.
