Goa: Your Ticket to Paradise

Goa: Your Ticket to Paradise

Goa is a state located in the south-western portion of India.  It is actually the smallest state in the country and compared to other areas, the population of Goa is notably less.  Another interesting fact in regards to this region is that as it was first settled by the Portuguese, this heritage and culture are still quite rich.  Goa is known for its beaches, its luxury resorts and its splendid examples of flora and fauna.  Many choose to purchase package holidays in order to enjoy cheap flights and well as bargain hotels.  Let's look at this region in more detail.

Airports and Flights

Goa International Airport (GOI) is the main hub which serves the entire state.  It can also be referred to as Dabolim Airport.  AS it is found only 4 kilometre from the major city of Vasco da Gama, arriving to and from the airport is relatively simple.  It is a further 30 kilometres from the capital city of Panjim.  There are two terminals; terminal 1 for domestic flights and terminal 2 reserved for international destinations.  Some of the major airlines which fly to and from Goa include:

  • Air India
  • Thomas Cook Airlines
  • Thomson Airways
  • TruJet
  • GoAir

Please note here that the only carriers operating out of the United Kingdom are Thomson Airways and Thomas Cook Airlines.  Assuming that one has taken a direct flight, the total travel time is approximately 13 hours.  However, cheap flights are available and these are normally associated with connections.

Goa Hotels and Accommodations

Some of the top hotels within this region include Taj Exotic Goa, Park Hyatt Goa Resort and Spa, The Leela Goa and Grand Hyatt Goa.  Many companies which offer package holidays will include these properties as a portion of the total price.  However, those searching for a bargain can choose the many hostels and boutique hotels found throughout Goa (particularly in major cities such as Vasco da Gama and Panjim.  Keep in mind that any last-minute flights are likely to be quite expensive.
