Known for its ancient ruins, the majestic Nile River and cities such as Luxor and Alexandria, Egypt is one of the most sought-after travel destinations in the world. Although many still perceive this massive country as little more than desert, the truth of the matter is that it can be a dream come true for any fan of amenable weather and history. Airports and Flight Details

There are three major airports within Egypt. These are Cairo (Egypt) Airport, Aswan Daraw Airport and Abu Simbel Airport. For the sake of brevity within this article. We will only examine Cairo International Airport. This is the busiest airport in Egypt and is widely known as the major hub for hosting domestic flights for EgyptAir. However, there are several international carriers serviced as well. Some examples can be:

  • British Airways
  • Air France
  • Aegean Airlines
  • Emirates
  • Swiss International Air Lines

Note that there are three terminals located within this airport and at the time that this article was written, Terminal Two was closed for renovations. It is wise to check ahead to understand the layout of this hub, as it is quite large. Upon arrival, you will be provided with several means of transportation. These include train, bus, taxi and private car hire services.

Ancient Sites and the Nile River

There is no doubt that the Great Pyramid and the surrounding temples of Giza are truly outstanding. If you do not have the opportunity to visit any other locations, be sure to check these out. Some other equally stunning sites include the majestic Valley of the Kings, the ancient temple of Karnak, Luxor Temple, terraced ruins known as Deir el-Bahari and the temple of Philae.

There are also a host of Nile cruises which can take you up and down this massive river. Other sites can be found along the way and such excursions are excellent ways to see many of the lesser-known natural attractions of Egypt. Note that when we refer to going “up” river, we are actually speaking of sailing to the south towards the source of the Nile. Longer journeys will enable you to see the different tributaries which are known as the Blue and the White Nile.

There are also a number of stunning beaches to enjoy. Notable locations such as Sharm el-Sheikh and Hurghada Beach. As these are quite popular with tourist, be prepared for crowds even during the autumn and winter.

Visiting Egypt can be a great way to see what can only be called a unique portion of the history of mankind. Whether you are a fan of ancient cultures or not, there is no doubt that you will be absolutely stunned with what is in store as soon as you arrive.
