The ancient temple of Knossos is perhaps the most famous site here and it is perfect for fans of history. However, immaculate shores such as those found at Elafonisi should never be missed. Spinalonga is another pristine location. Many companies offer glass-bottom boat tours as well as the rental of surf boards and jet skis. Other natural attractions here include the Lefka Ori nature preserve, the Aquaworld Aquarium, the rocky coves at Souda Bay and a more mountainous region of the island known as Dikti.
It is best to visit between the late autumn and the middle spring. This is considered to be the off season in regards to tourists. Also, the temperatures are much more agreeable when compared to the height of the summer.
