Cool Cyprus Holidays Under the Sun

Cyprus is a large island-nation found within the eastern portion of the Mediterranean Sea. Not only does this location offer a truly amazing climate, but a history that stems as far back as at least the 10th century BCE enables visitors to enjoy a plethora of archaeological sites. A high-income economy combined with a host of natural and man-made attractions to enjoy have enabled Cyprus to consistently score high in terms of tourism figures. If you plan on visiting this amazing destination, it is a good idea to take a look at some of its key characteristics.

Airports and Airlines

The main airport that most travellers utilise when arriving to Cyprus is Larnaca International Airport (LCA). This is the largest hub on the island; serving both regional and international flights. As it is found only 4 kilometres south-west of the capital city of Larnaca, you will never have an issue in regards to mass transit. Some of the major carriers supported by the airport include:

  • Aeroflot
  • Aegean Airlines
  • British Airways
  • Eurowings
  • Ryanair
  • Thomas Cook Airlines

As of 2015, Larnaca International Airport serviced approximately 5.4 million passengers on a yearly basis.

The Natural Beauty of Cyprus

Much of the beautiful nature within Cyprus can be found along its numerous beaches. The waters here are incredibly warm throughout the year and as they are also very clean, major portions of the coastline enjoy the internationally renowned Blue Flag status. A handful of popular choices include Nissi Beach, Cape Greco and Fig Tree Bay.

Historic Sites

As we saw earlier, Cyprus is home to some truly breathtaking historic sites. From the Phoenicians to the Romans and the Greeks, this island has been continually inhabited for thousands of years. Locations such as the Tombs of the Kings., Kolossi Castle, Kato Paphos Archaeological Park and Kyrenia Castle are only a handful of the options to enjoy. Be sure to set aside some time to experience these sights first-hand.

Fun for the Family

The capital city of Larnaca offers a host of restaurants, hotels, parks and theatres to choose from during your stay. Thanks to the prevalence of warm weather, be sure not to miss the world famous water park known as Fasouri Watermania. It is open throughout the year and there are spots ideally suited for both children and adults. When the temperatures outside rise, this park can provide the relief that you need.

When to Visit

Cyprus can be extremely busy during the months of June through until September. This also happens to be when temperatures can rise well above 40ºC in the sun. It is a good idea to consider an autumn or an early spring holiday. The crowds will have dispersed, the temperatures will be more agreeable and even the cost of a flight could be significantly less.
