A Look at Quality Mauritius Holidays

Mauritius is a small island-nation found within the tranquil waters of the Indian Ocean.  Located approximately 2,000 kilometres off of the cost of East Africa, Mauritius is known for its balmy year-round climate, its stable government and a kaleidoscope of attractions to be experienced.  So, what are some of the basics in regards to arriving here and what can visitors expect to experience when visiting this unforgettable example of nature at its finest?

Travel Information and Airports

SSR International Airport (MRU) is the largest and most frequently utilised airport within this island.  Having been refurbished in 2013, SSR International Airport is quite modern and now has the capacity to handle up to 4 million passengers each year.  Some of the airlines which use this terminal include Comair, Air France, Air Mauritius, Lufthansa, Thompson Airways and Turkish Airlines.  SSR Airport is located approximately 17 kilometres from the city of Port Louis and 24 kilometres from Quatre Bornes.  Due to the relative isolation of this airport and Mauritius in general, searching for package holidays and last-minute bargains can be more difficult when compared to other locations.  Therefore, an all-inclusive holiday deals should be thoroughly researched online and any tickets need to be booked well in advance.

Things to do When Visiting Mauritius

One of the most interesting aspects of this island is that the authorities have gone to great lengths in order to protect the natural environment.  Therefore, a number of beautiful locations are located only a short distance away from the capital city of Port Louis.  Some examples are the Black River Gorges National Park, the Sir Seewoosagur Ramgoolam Botanical Gardens, Ganga Talao Lake, Tamarind Waterfalls, The Trou aux Cerfs volcanic basin and the Crocodile and Giant Tortoises Park.  Most of these locations are equipped with guided tours and some package holidays will offer excursions included within their price.

The beaches should also be mentioned within this article.  Thanks to the warm trade currents of the Indian Ocean, swimming can be enjoyed throughout the year.  The waters are quite clear and they are said to be some of the bluest in the world.  A handful of top sandy destinations include Belle Mare Plage, Ile aux Cerfs, Pereybere, Flic en Flac and Mont Choisy.  These can all be reached by taxi or through the use of a local bus service which runs from Port Louis city centre.

While there a number of high-class hotels within Port Louis such as the Hilton Mauritius Resort and the Le Saint Georges Hotel, other boutique properties may be able to offer a true bargain.  Examples here include The Oberoi Mauritius and Maritim Resort & Spa Mauritius.

Most properties are located quite close to the beaches as well as to transportation hubs.  Although the flight time from major cities such as London to Mauritius can be as long as 12 hours (non-stop journeys), the trip is worth it when we consider the ultimate experience.
