Things to do When Visiting Mauritius

One of the most interesting aspects of this island is that the authorities have gone to great lengths in order to protect the natural environment.  Therefore, a number of beautiful locations are located only a short distance away from the capital city of Port Louis.  Some examples are the Black River Gorges National Park, the Sir Seewoosagur Ramgoolam Botanical Gardens, Ganga Talao Lake, Tamarind Waterfalls, The Trou aux Cerfs volcanic basin and the Crocodile and Giant Tortoises Park.  Most of these locations are equipped with guided tours and some package holidays will offer excursions included within their price.

The beaches should also be mentioned within this article.  Thanks to the warm trade currents of the Indian Ocean, swimming can be enjoyed throughout the year.  The waters are quite clear and they are said to be some of the bluest in the world.  A handful of top sandy destinations include Belle Mare Plage, Ile aux Cerfs, Pereybere, Flic en Flac and Mont Choisy.  These can all be reached by taxi or through the use of a local bus service which runs from Port Louis city centre.
