The Beauty of Belfast

Belfast is the largest city and capital of Northern Ireland.  Nestled upon the shores of River Lagan, this metropolitan area is home to just over 286,000 residents.  In the past, Dublin was home to a large linen industry as well as being a major centre for shipbuilding (RMS Titanic was built here).  In modern times, Belfast is still heavily involved in industrial production while it is known for its culture, its museums and its institutions of higher education.  What can you expect when visiting here?

Flight Information and Airports

The major airport serving the Dublin metropolitan area is Belfast International Airport (BFS).  It is located just over 23 kilometres to the north-west of Belfast.  Major renovations took place during the first decade of the 2000s and now, this airport is considered to be one of the most beautiful in the world.  Some of the airlines which utilise Belfast as a hub are:

The Antrim Railway Station is the nearest train station to the airport; 10 kilometres from the terminal.  However, buses and taxis regularly serve those wishing to visit the city centre.  Those who are looking for last-minute bargains will be pleased to know that airlines such as easyJet and Ryanair offer a number of money-saving deals.  

Attractions and Must-See Locations

City breaks here are sure to leave a lasting impression.  Belfast is home to some extremely famous venues.  These include (but are not limited to) Belfast Castle, Kingspan Stadium, the Grand Opera House, Ulster Museum and Belfast City Hall.  Outdoor enthusiasts can experience the grandeur of nature by walking through regions such as Cavehill, the Botanic Gardens and Mount Stewart.  Anyone who hopes to enjoy a tasty craft beer should be sure not to miss pubs including Bootleggers, The Woodworkers and Sunflower.

One of the benefits in regards to visiting Belfast is that package holidays are a great way to save money while still enjoying some of the top hotels in the city.  Some luxurious properties include The Europa Hotel, Park Inn by Radisson, The Fitzwilliam Hotel and Clayton Hotel.  

However, there are always bargains available.  Holiday Inn Express and Balmoral Hotel are two perfect examples here.  These are especially ideal for last-minute trips when you may not have the option of reserving an expensive room. 

When to Visit Belfast

Much like other northern cities, the weather can be a bit unpredictable during the autumn, the winter and the early portion of spring.  However, these are the very same times when the number of tourists is dramatically reduced.  You will also be much more likely to encounter cheap flights as opposed to visiting during the height of the travel season.  Summers here tend to be cool and dry while it is not uncommon for a significant amount of snow to fall during the winter months.  Nonetheless, Belfast is a city not to be missed when visiting Northern Ireland.
